MACRO → SECTORS
What could this economy mean for sectors?
Choose a scenario to explore the mechanism, potential sector effects and what would overturn the outlook. Potential support is not evidence of money already flowing in.
Signals disagree
Required conditions
CPI and PPI disagree, or yields do not confirm the release.
How it could affect equities
No clear sector preference. Markets may already have priced in the news; one release cannot establish a trend.
Potential support
No sector conclusion from these conditions. Gather more evidence before ranking sectors.
Potential pressure / mixed effects
No sector conclusion from these conditions. Gather more evidence before ranking sectors.
What to check before trusting this view
Check matching periods, headline versus core, monthly versus annual changes, revisions and pre-release consensus.
What would overturn this view
Use another scenario only when inflation, growth and market pricing tell a consistent story.
How to read CPI / PPI and check actual fund flows
CPI tracks consumer prices; PPI tracks prices received by producers. PPI is not every company’s cost base, and the indexes do not always move together. Compare matching monthly, annual, headline and core series.
Below consensus does not necessarily mean below last month. Compare the release with a pre-release consensus for the same period and series, with timestamps and sources. This guide does not automatically ingest releases or consensus forecasts.
A release-day reaction can reverse within hours; earnings effects may take months. Yields, the dollar, earnings, existing valuations and company news can outweigh one economic release.
Rising prices or volume do not prove net inflows. Use dated, sourced fund-flow or ETF creation/redemption data to examine actual flows. This guide shows neither measured flows nor win probabilities.
