Let me start with a truth most traders do not understand — a prop firm is not a "school" and not an "enemy" — it is a business. And if you understand how this business makes money, you will know immediately how you have to pass.
What a prop firm (proprietary trading firm) is
It is a company that gives "simulated capital" to traders — you pay a Challenge fee of a few thousand to a few tens of thousands of baht → you complete the test to pass its criteria → if you pass, the company lets you trade a "funded" account of $10,000 to $200,000+ → the profit you make, you split with the company (mostly you get 80-90%).
Sounds too good to be true? — there is a clear business reason behind it.
A prop firm makes money in 2 ways:
Way 1 — the Challenge fees of people who fail This is the truth you must understand — when 90% of people fail, their Challenge fees are the company's revenue · many prop firms make their main profit from "Challenge fees," not from the profit split of funded traders.
Way 2 — the split from genuinely skilled traders A good prop firm wants funded traders who profit consistently, because 10-20% of that profit is long-term revenue · one skilled trader who profits continuously = an asset to the company.
The most important lesson of this chapter:
> You are not "buying an opportunity" — you are proving yourself, to pass a system designed for most people to fail
This game is not unfair — it is simply "strict," and the person who understands how it is strict is the person who passes.
3 misconceptions that make people fail before they even begin:
1. "The Challenge fee is a tuition fee" — wrong · if you still cannot trade, the Challenge is not a place to practice; you will lose the fee over and over · the Challenge is a "final exam," not a "lesson."
2. "Pass the Challenge and you are instantly rich" — wrong · passing = getting a funded account, but you then have to survive trading the funded account and actually get a payout, which is a harder stage than the exam itself.
3. "Pick a big account first, in case the profit is large" — wrong · a big account = a large profit target in dollars = more pressure = worse trading (Chapter 2 will explain).
Who is suited to a prop firm: A trader who has a proven system (already backtested + demoed, with a genuine edge) but lacks the capital to scale · a prop firm solves the "lack of capital" problem — but it cannot solve a "lack of skill."
If you do not yet have a system with an edge — go back and read the "Build a Trading System With an Edge" ebook first · a prop firm is not a shortcut that skips the stage of having skill.
Now you understand the game — let's go pick the right Challenge
