What a Payout Is — and Why It Is Harder Than Passing

Most traders focus on "passing the Challenge" · but the truth is — passing is only halfway · the real gate is the payout — actually withdrawing your profit.

What a payout is

A payout = the prop firm paying your share of the profit · when you trade the funded account into profit, you request a payout → the firm transfers real money into your pocket per the profit split (e.g. you get 80-90%).

The correct sequence: Pass the Challenge → get a funded account → trade the funded account into profit → request a payout → get real money

A beginner thinks "passing = success" · the truth is "passing = just beginning" · it is the first payout that is the proof you can "actually make money from a prop firm."

Why a payout is harder than passing — 3 reasons

Reason 1 — the Challenge has a deadline, but a funded account requires "continuous survival" The Challenge gives you a month, with a clear target · the funded account has no finish line — you must trade and survive (without breaching the drawdown) continuously until the payout cycle · surviving continuously is harder than sprinting to a finish line once.

Reason 2 — the mindset shifts the wrong way after passing Many people pass and feel "I am safe now" → they trade loosely → they blow up the funded account before the first payout · the funded account has the same drawdown rules.

Reason 3 — the payout rules have details people never read Payout cycle, minimum payout, minimum trading days before a payout, consistency · if you do not understand them, you may "have a profit but still cannot withdraw" (Chapter 2 digs in).

A statistic you must know

Many traders who pass the Challenge — never get a single payout · not because the firm cheats (though some firms do have real problems — Chapter 4), but mostly because they blow up the funded account before the payout, from loose trading after passing.
