Asian session (around 6:00 - 14:00) Gold usually moves quietly — a narrow range, low volume · suited to: surveying the big picture, planning, marking zones · not suited to: hunting hard breakouts (they are usually false).

London session (around 14:00 - 22:00) Gold starts to wake up — volume rises, the moves have a clearer direction · London is the real center of world gold trading · this is when the daily trend usually begins to form.

New York session (around 19:30 - 04:00) Gold is most alive · the London + NY overlap (around 19:30 - 22:00) is when gold moves the hardest and with the most direction — peak volume · most US economic news comes out in this window.

Timing traps — 3 of them

1. Trading the Asian session hunting breakouts — the Asian range is narrow, most breakouts are false · if you trade the Asian session, play the range, not the breakout.

2. Trading through the news without realizing it — US news comes out in the NY window · if you have a position left open when the news drops without realizing it = you risk getting hit by a spike (Chapter 5).

3. Trading too late, near the NY close — near the NY close (after 2-3 a.m.) volume thins, the moves get choppy · and you are sleepy = poor decisions.

Choose a fixed trading window — the London-NY overlap (around 19:30 - 22:30) is recommended · trade only this window · outside the window = you can watch and plan, but do not open a position.
